Independence Communications Provides Xplore’s Rugged Tablet PCs to Cincinnati Fire Department
Xplore Technologies Corp. (TSX: XPL), a leading international developer, producer and distributor of rugged wireless tablet computer systems, has been selected to supply rugged tablet PC’s to the Cincinnati Fire Department. The announcement was made by Don DiGeronimo, President of Independence Communications, an authorized Xplore Platinum reseller, who was awarded the overall contract by the Cincinnati Fire Department.
The Department, which employs 805 uniformed firefighters and emergency service workers, made the decision to utilize Xplore’s rugged hardware after a committee evaluated it and 4 other hardware solutions that responded to an RFP. The City invited 8 vendors to participate in a 14-day evaluation of their hardware/software solution by firefighters in the field. Mr. DiGeronimo stated, “At the end of the 14-day trial period, the firefighters filled out an evaluation on the products. Based on these responses, the department signed a contract with Independence Communications for the Xplore GeneSys® Maximus Rugged Tablet Computer system.”
Mr. DiGeronimo notes that the Cincinnati Fire Department selected Xplore’s rugged GeneSys System based on its military standards for ruggedization, 12.1” screen size, touchscreen capabilities and a comprehensive local support program through Independence Communications.
Cincinnati Fire Department’s entire staff is certified Emergency Medical Technicians. This allows the first responders of an emergency call, fire or medical, to perform whatever duties necessary to manage and control the situation. If a medical emergency is in progress, Cincinnati’s on-site safety personnel will enter patient information directly into Xplore’s rugged Tablet computer. When an ambulance arrives on the scene, data collected on-site will be transferred to the mobile EMT team’s Xplore Tablet computer and will be ready for transport to the hospital.
“We continue to see measurable growth in our first responder customer base and especially within the fire safety and EMS segments,” said Richard Perley, Senior Vice President for Xplore. Perley reported that Cincinnati Fire Department has purchased 52 Xplore GeneSys Maximus Systems through Independence, one of Xplore’s Platinum level Resellers. “We are pleased to welcome Cincinnati Fire to our rapidly expanding family of rugged Tablet users, and congratulate Independence on this noteworthy contract. The GeneSys Systems will be custom mounted by Independence on 68 trucks and the installation is expected to begin at the end of this month.”
